A scientific lecture entitled "Damage control of Helicoverpa armigera by lure and kill method using herbal volatile compounds" was delivered by Dr. Arman Avand Faqih on Tuesday, September 15. This lecture was organized by the Department of Research and Technology affairs of the Iranian Research Institute of Plant Protection in the form of a video conference. This conference was attended by faculty members and the researchers of the institute.
Plant compounds, as semiochemicals, play a key role in various biological and behavioral aspects of insects, from the search, selection, and acceptance of hosts for feeding to the proper breeding ground for spawning, as well as their intra-species communication. In this speech, it was stated that during many years, extensive efforts have been made to identify these semiochemicals and their impact on insect biology, and in the recent years, the results of these basic studies have led to the supply of commercial products of plant origin for use in agricultural entomology and control of harmful insect damage to plants. Among these products is Noctovi®, which contains plant semiochemicals that attract the moth of the Noctuidae family.
