According to the public relations office report of the IRIPP, the plan to identify date trees infected with the red palm weevil using remote sensing and artificial intelligence technologies in the southern region of Kerman province (Jiroft and Anbarabad cities) started in October of this year.

This plan consists of 5 research projects in the field of identifying the infected trees, centers of contamination and how the contamination develops, and will be performed using remote sensing technology and data collection from Satellite.

The implementation of this plan stared by Kazem Mohammadpour and Hossein Farazmand, faculty members of the IRIPP, Ali Akbar Nowrozi, an expert in remote sensing and drones from Soil Conservation and Watershed Management Research Institute (SCWMRI), Afshin Ivani, an audio expert, and Nikrouz Bagheri, an artificial intelligence expert from the Research Institute of Agricultural Engineering, and a number of experts of the flight of the drone.
