Based on the important role of plant protection research in providing “Food security and Food safety”, some of the important strategic objectives of IRIPP could be mentioned as follows:
-Presenting management methods of plant pests, diseases and weeds, in order to prevent yield reduction (Food Security).
-Suggesting and using non-chemical management methods for the plant pests, dis- eases and weeds, with the emphasis on reduction of chemical pesticides use (Food Safety).
-Research on pesticide residue levels on agricultural produces with emphasis on strate- gic crops.
-Research on biodiversity and conservation of genetic sources in the gene bank of the IRIPP.
-Application of new technologies (i.e. Biotechnology and Nanotechnology) in fast and precise detection methods of plant pests and diseases, and deployment of resistant
germplasms against plant pests and diseases.
